The Hatchery has over the years become renowned for its unique and rustic accommodation, beach and lagoon adventures and as an intimate getaway wedding venue. It is also a favourite for the sporty types, in particular mountain biking enthusiasts looking for epic new trails, and for events in general, which this article is all about.
Firstly, we would like to inform the MTB crowd about exciting events happening in our neck of the forest. These are the Xmas Beach Ride and the Full Moon Beach Ride and Lagoon Crossing both happening in December.
The Xmas Beach Ride is an event being held by The Barriers (see Facebook page) and is an extreme, self guided MTB race which takes place from 11 December with 3 different lengths. These are the Long Prawn (310km), The Short Prawn (240km) and the Naupilii (160km). The routes are GPX only and you form your group and decide when you want to set off. The Hatchery is a stop off point and there will be race village set up especially. Costs and sign up information for this Barriers Xtreme MTB Xmas Edition are available here (click here) and proceeds go towards restoration of the Amatigulu Nature Reserve.
A week later there will be another MTB event happening at The Hatchery itself. This is the Full Moon Beach Ride and Lagoon crossing at 7pm on 18 December. Celebrate making it through 2021 with the last spring low ride of the year on some of best bits of deserted and easily rideable KZN coastline. R200 gets you a crossing and the most awesome few hours you can have on a MTB. Enjoy a drink around the bonfire on the lagoon edge with friends afterwards. Secondly, we welcome you to book for any event you desire and are flexible depending on preference and budget. Year end functions and team building events are happening again and are necessary for your work team to get together after what has been quite a hectic year. We have the ultimate relaxing environment for informal or formal events with open spaces, fatty beach tours, fishing, kayaking, walks, all DIY or guided, lamb on the spit, available midweek too. Our comfortable, self-catering (catering on request) rooms are child and pet-friendly.
